You know what drives me crazy? Unfocused energy! Energy that’s scattered all over the place. People saying “I’m doing this super awesome thing where you grow crystals in the shape of dinosaurs.”
5 minutes later… “Did I tell you about the hand puppets I’m making out of rolled oats?”
Me: “What happened to the dinosaur crystals?”
“Oh that didn’t work out. Now I’m on to this!”
For crying out loud. Pick one thing and DO IT already!!!
Before you cast a stone at me for being so judgy-judgy, I’ll be the first to admit that I too have been guilty of the scattered energy syndrome and… I drove MYSELF crazy!
It’s an easy trap to fall into when you don’t really know what you want to do. When I’ve fallen into this space, I quickly turn inward. You see, if you really know who you are and what’s important to you, then (squeak, squeak, squeak, rub the magic lamp and your wish is my command) the way is made clear and all the details fall into place!
When I’m in this rut, the first thing I do is notice that my energies are going in too many directions, and I feel that nothing is getting the full attention that it deserves. And this can be hard because we truly can be interested in ALL THE THINGS! But, sometimes you just gotta’ knuckle down and choose.
Next, I get quiet. I get still. I get – centered.
I ask myself: “why am I throwing attention all over the place? What am I really trying to accomplish? What’s underneath all of this? – The feeling I’m stretching to capture?”
Don’t you agree that we always overcomplicate things!?! Distract ourselves into a maze of hustle and bustle until we’re so far removed from our source that it seems impossible to find a way out.
I drop the distractions and now I’m sinking into my core and getting things clear in my heart and simple in my mind. This is who I am. My vision is clear. THIS is how I want to feel. The simplest way for me to accomplish this mission is ______________.
Ahhhhh. I feel so much better. My actions have intention behind them now and (this one’s very important!!!) I discipline myself to stay focused on this sole mission. Stay vigilant to deflect any distractions that can lead you astray. Get out of the car with all the routes you could take and get on the train for a straight shot to your destination.
Everything we achieve, we do so by focused commitment. Become like a laser and focus all your energy into one strong beam. It will happen, whatever “it” is.
Anyway, that’s what’s worked for me.
